Makiko Yamada of the National Institute of Radiology in Chiba has found so-called centre of superiority in human brain. This discovery will help to fight depression caused by low self-esteem.


Brain imaging of 24 people allowed to identify the centre. It looks like our self-esteem zone overlaps with pleasure zone, located in the frontal cortex and stratum zone.


Local neurons respond to dopamine, a particular hormone responsible for pleasure, which under certain conditions can cause a syndrome of "false superiority".


Our self-esteem levels depend on the number of dopamine receptors. If they are abundant, self-esteem increases substantially.


Member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences, PhD Tanya Chernihivskaya says that scientists still do not know exactly which neurons are responsible for specific functions.


In fact, scientists proved the existence of "grandmother” neuron, “Eiffel Tower" and "Michael Jackson” neurons, etc. It's activated if you see a picture or someone uttering the word reminding the subject.


Neuro-scientist Daniel Wegner believes that our actions and behaviour depend on the brain impulses that are predetermined before a conscious decision is made.
