Meteor hits Russia

Meteor shower has happened today in Russia, Chelyabinsk Region with one sizable meteor reaching the lower layers of atmosphere, and possibly hitting the distant lake of Cherbakul.


A massive ball of fire and smoke tearing through the sky was observed by thousands of people across the region about half past 9 a.m. There was no warning of the meteor and it came unexpected for both scientists and authorities.


About two thousands people have been injured, among which there are two hundred children according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Three people are in critical condition. No fires have been reported while most windows in the region have been broken.


Meteor shower was observed in five regions of Russia, Tumen, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgansk, and Bashkiria.
