Bikini line care

People who wax or shave their bikini zone have a higher chance of contracting infections, according to the researchers.

Wax depilation and shaving damages the human skin causing micro traumas. It makes skin vulnerable against such pathogens as poxvirus.

The results of the study were published in the British Medical Journal.

During the research, scientists observed 30 volunteers that had the poxvirus called molluscum contagiosum. Patients were receiving treatment in a private hospital in France.

Experts claimed that pubic depilation among men has also become popular nowadays. Among 30 patients, 24 were men. All 30 patients sustained micro injuries in the bikini zone as a result of shaving, waxing or trimming.

Molluscum contagiousumis infectious and can be spread from person to person by skin to skin contact or just by touching things of personal hygiene such as towels.

Generally, this virus gets exterminated by the body and there is no need for any special treatment. The only symptom of it is appearance of red spots.

Scratching these spots is not advised because it may lead to aches and bleeding, and increase the chance of infection's spreading. In some cases it also can leave scars.

Scientists also say bikini zone depilation also may be a cause for other infectious diseases such as genital warts.
