Homemade alcohol is responsible for the mass death in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, the official Ministry of Health said on Monday.

Since Saturday, thirty eight people died in Tripoli, and thirteen more have passed away while being transported to Tunisia for treatment. In addition, more than 300 people are still suffering from the poisoning.

In total, there have been 378 cases of poisoning.

Alcohol production, sale and consumption is prohibited in this Islamic North African country, so the alcohol must have come either from the black market where it is easily available, or had been made at home. It is suspected to have been made out of methanol.

The official investigation has not discovered the source of the alcohol yet.
